railway take action Main bhi chowkidaar cup controversy

A passenger in Shatabdi train gets tea cup with ‘Main Bhi Chowkidar’ slogan printed on it

A passenger who was travelling in Shatabdi train got tea cup with the slogan ‘Main Bhi Chowkidar’ printed on it. The passenger got disappointed by the tea cup served in the ‘Kathgodam Shadabdi Express’  train and complained about it, claiming it as the violation of Model Code of Conduct.

Earlier this month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had started the ‘Main Bhi Chowkidar Hoon’ campaign which gained a lot of popularity and in a move of strengthening the campaign, PM Modi among other BJP leaders prefixed the term ‘Chowkidar’ to their official twitter handle and the same was followed by the followers of Bharatiya Janata Party.

Reacting to the latest complaint by the passenger The Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) suspended the supervisor. “We have taken action against the Supervisor and have withdrawn these cups,” said MP Mall, managing director of IRCTC.

“It happened today but immediately glasses were withdrawn. Penal action is being taken against the contractor. Action is also being taken against the supervisor,” the Railway ministry said.

This matter has been referred to the Election Commission too.“How could they allow this to happen? I was travelling in Kathgodam Shatabdi when I noticed the cup with political message. I complained to the on-board staff also,” said DN Mohanty.

This incident comes days after Air India decided to withdraw the boarding passes with photographs of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani on March 25.

Earlier PM Modi had said that every person who is fighting against the corruption and social illness is a ‘Chowkidar’. Referring to himself, PM Modi said, “This chowkidar will not let anybody deceive the innocent people, and I am not alone.”

Mentioning about the popularity of ‘Main Bhi Chowkidar’ campaign, Union Minister and Senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad had earlier said, this campaign has become people’s movement as ‘#MainBhiChowkidar’ was tweeted 20 lakh times and it got 1,680 crore impressions.

Bharatiya Janata Party had also launched ‘Main Bhi Chowkidar’ caller tune to connect with the masses. BJP had earlier shared the number of the mobile companies through which one can get the ‘Main bhi Chowkidar’ as their caller tune.

In a single sentence it can be said that the Bharatiya Janata Party is trying their best to woo the voters and to get their votes to ensure their victory in the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections.
