India’s hero Indian Air Force pilot Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman has set his foot on Indian soil. He has reached the Palam airport from Amritsar on a special BSF plane.
Finance Minister Arun Jaitley tweeted, “India’s happiness on return of Wing Commander Abhinandan is unprecedented. I salute the courage and resilience of Wg Commander Abhinandan.”
To welcome the officer, thousands of people descended at the Attari border, mostly from Amritsar to welcome Wg Cdr Abhinandan. Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman, who was a Prisoner of War with Pakistan for close to 48 hours, has landed at Attari, the Indian side of the border.
He reached the integrated check post after completing formalities at Wagah, which is the Pakistan side of the border. He crossed over to the Indian border at about 9:20 pm.
From the Indian side of the border which happens to be Attari, Wing Commander Abhinandan was immediately driven away in a high security cavalcade. After this his detailed medical will be carried out since he had had to eject out of the plane and take a parachute dropping. Also what is to be ascertained is the condition in which the enemy country has handed over our officer to us. Apart from it, his debriefing will be carried out among other things.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed him with a Tweet, “Welcome Home Wing Commander Abhinandan! The nation is proud of your exemplary courage. Our armed forces are an inspiration for 130 crore Indians. Vande Mataram!”
