Son of senior Congress leader and former Finance Minister of India P Chidambaram is the key accused in INX Media case.
Son of former Finance Minister P Chidambaram, Karti Chidambaram had to appear before the ED (Enforcement Directorate) for his alleged involvement in INX Media case.
Chidambaram has been questioned on several occasions in the past in regards to this case, which is being probed by Enforcement Directorate and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Both agencies are trying to find out how Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) gave a green signal to foreign investment in INX Media in 2007. It was during the tenure of Mr. P Chidambaram as the Finance Minister of India.
CBI had arrested Karti earlier in connection with INX media case in February last year but he was later granted bail. P Chidambaram has also been questioned by the ED in INX Media case earlier.
The government agency has attached properties worth Rs. 54 crore belonging to Karti Chidambaram in relation to the INX Media case. ED has also attached properties which belong to Indrani and Peter Mukerjea, who have been the directors of the INX Media, in relation to the same case.
Karti is also an accused in the Aircel-Maxis case. He has been warned by the Supreme Court to not to ‘play around with the law’. He has been directed to appear before the ED for being questioned in the INX Media and Aircel Maxis cases.
Government agency has registered a case under against him under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) on the basis of an FIR filed by the CBI. ED has alleged that irregularities took place in Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) giving its clearance to INX Media. A huge foreign investment of an amount of Rs. 305 crores in the INX Media is being questioned and scanned by government agencies.
