Governor of Gujarat

Mehdi Nawaz Jung (1 May 1960 – 1 Aug 1965): Nawab Mehdi Nawaz Jung was a leading bureaucrat and served as a Secretary to the Executive Council throughout the Nizam empire. He also was the first Governor of Gujarat from 1 May 1960 – 1 Aug 1965.

Nityanand Kanungo (1 Aug 1965 – 7 Dec 1967): Nityanand Kanungo was one of India’s renowned political leaders from the Odisha, state who held consecutive prestigious portfolios in Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru’s cabinet. He served as a Rajyapal of Gujarat during 1 Aug 1965 – 7 Dec 1967.

P.N. Bhagwati (Acting) (7 Dec 1967 – 26 Dec 1967) again from (17 Mar 1973 – 4 Apr 1973): Prafullachandra Natwarlal Bhagwati served as the 17th Chief Justice of India. He became governor of Gujarat twice from (7 Dec 1967 – 26 Dec 1967) again from (17 Mar 1973 – 4 Apr 1973).

Shriman Narayan (26 Dec 1967 – 17 Mar 1973): Shriman Narayan was a governor of Gujarat from 26 Dec 1967 – 17 Mar 1973. He was also a prominent supporter of the beliefs of Mahatma Gandhi.

Kambanthodath Kunhan Vishwanatham (4 Apr 1973 – 4 Apr 1973): Kambanthodath Kunhan Viswanathan or K. K. Viswanathan served as a governor of Gujarat from 4 Apr 1973 – 4 Apr 1973.

Sharda Mukherjee (14 Aug 1978 – 6 Aug 1983): Sharda Mukherjee was an eminent Indian socialite and politician who ruled as a Governor of Gujarat during 14 Aug 1978 – 6 Aug 1983.

Kizhekethil Mathew Chandy (6 Aug 1983 – 26 Apr 1984): Kizhakkayil Mathew Chandy is the former governor of Gujarat from 6 Aug 1983 – 26 Apr 1984.

Braj Kumar Nehru (26 Apr 1984 – 26 February 1986): Braj Kumar Nehru MBE, ICS was a popular Indian representative and Diplomat of India to the United States (1961–1968). He served as a Rajyapal of Gujarat during 26 Apr 1984 – 26 February 1986.

Ram Krishna Trivedi (26 Feb 1986 – 2 May 1990): Ram Krishna Trivedi was a famous political leader who was Governor of Gujarat from 26 Feb 1986 – 2 May 1990.

Mahipal Shastri (2 May 1990 – 21 Dec 1990): Mahipal Shastri or Mahipal Singh Shastri is a former governor of Gujarat from 2 May 1990 – 21 Dec 1990. He was also the educated personality who served as a minister and then the eleventh governor of Gujarat.

Sarup Singh (21 Dec 1990 – 1 Jul 1995): Dr. Sarup Singh (also Swaroop Singh) was a well-known academic and then moved to a politician. He was a governor of Gujarat during 21 Dec 1990 – 1 Jul 1995.

Naresh Chandra (1 Jul 1995 – 1 March 1996): Naresh Chandra was a Cabinet Secretary of India, Defence Secretary of India, Home Secretary of India, Water Resources Secretary of India and Indian Ambassador to the United States. He served as a governor of Gujarat from 1 Jul 1995 – 1 March 1996.

Krishna Pal Singh (1 Mar 1996 – 25 Apr 1998): Krishna Pal Singh was a prominent Indian activist, political leader and ex-Governor of Gujarat in between 1 Mar 1996 – 25 Apr 1998.

Anshuman Singh (25 Apr 1998 – 16 Jan 1999): Anshuman Singh served as the governor of Gujarat from 25 Apr 1998 – 16 Jan 1999.

K.G. Balakrishnan[2] (Acting) (16 Jan 1999 – 18 Mar 1999): Konakuppakatil Gopinathan Balakrishnan (K. G. Balakrishnan) served as a Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission of India. He was a governor of Gujarat during 16 Jan 1999 – 18 Mar 1999.

Sunder Singh Bhandari (18 March 1999 – 7 May 2003): Sunder Singh Bhandari served as a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh pracharak and leading politician from the Bharatiya Jana Sangh and Bharatiya Janata Party. He was a governor of Gujarat from 18 March 1999 – 7 May 2003.

Kailashpati Mishra (7 May 2003 – 2 Jul 2004): Kailashpati Mishra was a popular leader of the political party. He served as a leader of the Bharatiya Janta Party and an ex-Governor of Gujarat during 7 May 2003 – 2 Jul 2004.

Balram Jakhar (2 Jul 2004 – 24 Jul 2004): Balram Jakhar was a famous political leader and a leading parliamentarian and Governor of Gujarat from 2 Jul 2004 – 24 Jul 2004.
