Kerala communist leader held in double murder case

Peethambaran, CPI (M)’s local committee member has been arrested in connection with the murder of two Youth Congress workers at Kallyottu, near Periya, in Kasaragod.

Indian communists are ill-famed and scandalous, whether it is in Bengal or in Kerala.

Three men who were driving a bike killed two local youth Congress workers, Kripesh (22) and Sharath Lal (24).

This development is going to further the already damaged CPI (M) in Kerela. Wife of local CPI (M) leader Peethambaran who has been arrested in this murder case has claimed that communist leader couldn’t have planned it without the knowledge of CPI (M).

This statement is contrary to CPI (M) state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan‘s words about the crime. Kodiyeri had earlier told the media that this crime was committed without any knowledge of the party members.

CPI (M) district committee has expelled Peethambaran after the murder from the party membership for working against party’s policies.

Manju (Peethambaran’s wife) and his daughter Devika said from their house in Kerala that Peethambaran couldn’t have done it without the knowledge of Communist Party at any cost. They said, “He won’t do it without party’s knowledge at any cost. But after the arrest, no one from the party came here. They had gone to meet him when he got injured.

He has done it for the party, but now the party disowns him. If it has tainted the party’s image, it would affect them and the elections are coming. The blame is on the entire party, but now they are putting the blame on one person. For my part, I would say all the blame is on the party.”

CPI (M) has expelled him from the party as it is trying to save its face just before the elections. Several Communist leaders in the state have been said to be involved in acts of violent, crimes and several murders of their political opponents which includes many RSS workers.

Kodiyeri had earlier said, “Those who have acted against the direction of the party won’t be allowed to continue in the party, they won’t have any place in the CPI (M) and the party won’t support them. The official stand of the party is that such things shouldn’t happen. Whoever will act against the direction of the party won’t be spared. Such people won’t have any place in the party, the party won’t protect them.”

In January 2019, a quarrel took place between local supporters of the two parties.Supporters of CPI (M) and the Kerala Students’ Union which is a student’s wing of Congress fought with each other. This led to a violent clash between DYFI (youth wing of the CPI (M)) supporters and Youth Congress workers. This is an act of revenge as Peethambaran got injured during the episode and Sharath was named as the prime accused in the case.

Peethamabaran in his statement to investigating team has said that he carried out the crime out after being attacked by the Youth Congress workers and since he was not getting much help from his party in this matter, he had to execute the crime in an act of revenge.
