List of Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh

The state of Andhra (consisting of the coastal districts and Rayalaseema) was carved out of the then Madras state with Kurnool as the capital on 1st October 1953. The Telugu speaking of Hyderabad State to be formed as Andhra Pradesh was merged with Andhra state only to be formed as Andhra Pradesh with Hyderabad as the capital on 1st November 1956.

Following are the names of Chief Ministers of Andhra Pradesh

Neelam Sanjiva Reddy – One of the most famous political leaders, Reddy was the 6th President of India and the first Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. He took office from 12 March 1962 – 20 February1964, 12 March 1962 – 20 February 1964. He belonged to the Indian National Congress.

Damodaram Sanjivayya – Sanjivayya was the second Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and was the first Dalit Chief Minister of the Indian State. He remained CM from 11 January 1960 – 12 March 1962, and   belonged to the Indian National Congress.

Kasu Brahmananda Reddy – Kasu Reddy was the third Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and was also the elected President of the Indian National Congress. He claims the credit of the industrial development infrastructure in and around Hyderabad. Quiet a popular political leader in Andhra Pradesh, Kasu Reddy remained CM from 21 February 1964 – 30 September 1971 and belonged to the Indian National Congress.

P. V. Narasimha Rao – One of the most political leaders in Andhra Pradesh, P. V. Narasimha Rao was the ninth Prime Minister of India and was the fourth CM of Andhra Pradesh. He has held many high profile portfolios as the Cabinet minister in government of India. He served from 30 September 1971 – 10 January 1973 and belonged to the Indian National Congress.

Jalagam Vengala Rao – Rao was the fifth Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and was a member of the Indian National Congress throughout his life. He was actively participated in Congress’s campaign against Nizam of Hyderabad. He held his office from 10 December 1973 – 6 March 1978.

Marri Chenna Reddy – Marri Reddy was the sixth Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and was appointed as Governor of four states of India before serving as CM of Andhra Pradesh. He remained in office from 6 March 1978 – 11 October 1980, 3 December 1989 – 17 December 1990, and was an Indian National Congress leader.

Tanguturi Anjaiah – Anjaiah was the seventh Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, and served his term from 11 October 1980 – 24 February 1982 and belonged to the Indian National Congress.

Bhavanam Venkatarami Reddy – The eighth CM of Andhra Pradesh, Bhavanam served as cabinet minister in various AP governments. He served his term from 24 February 1982 – 20 September 1982, and belonged to the Indian National Congress.

Kotla Vijaya Bhaskara Redddy – Kotla Vijaya was the ninth Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and has served for two occasions. He served his term from 20 September 1982 – 9 January 1983, 9 October 1992 – 12 December 1994.

N. T. Rama Rao – One of the most powerful political leaders in Andhra Pradesh, N.T. Rama Rao served as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh for seven years over three terms. An actor by profession, Rao was the tenth CM of Andhra Pradesh and was the founder of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP). His term was from 9 January 1983 – 16 August 1984, 16 September 1984 – 2 December 1989, 12 December 1994 – 1 September 1995.

Nadendla Bhaskara Rao – Nadendla Rao was the eleventh Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. A Lawyer by profession, Rao has served as the minister in the Chenna Reddy’s government. He was very instrumental in forming Telugu Desam Party. Nadendla remained Chief Minister from 16 August 1984 – 16 September 1984.

N. Janardhana Reddy – The most popular politicians in Andhra Pradesh, Janardhana Reddy was the twelfth CM of Andhra Pradesh and had laid the foundation of the Hi-Tech City in Hyderabad. His term was from 17 December 1990 – 9 October 1992 and he belonged to the Indian National Congress.

N. Chandrababu Naidu – Chandrababu Naidu is the current Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. Currently the National President of the Telugu Desam Party, Naidu has achieved a milestone in his political career. He has been initiating several schemes in various sectors like health, education and even agriculture. His term as CM was from 1 September 1995 – 14 May 2004, 8 June 2014 – till date.

Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy – Famously known as YSR, Reddy was two time Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and has held many ministerial posts in Andhra Pradesh cabinet. His term was from 14 May 2004 – 2 September 2009 and he belonged to the Indian National Congress.

K. Rosaiah – Rosaiah was the fifteenth CM of Andhra Pradesh and has had held several ministerial posts in his long political career. He served his term from 3 September 2009 – 24 November 2010 and belonged to the Indian National Congress.

N. Kiran Kumar Reddy – Nallari Kiran Kumar Reddy was the last CM of the United Andhra Pradesh and was the Indian National Congress. He served his term from 25 November 2010 – 1 March 2014.
