There was a high voltage drama in the political arena of Uttarakhand, following a constitutional breakdown after a rebellious approach of then Ruling party Congress. It was termed as the “Black Day” in the history of Uttarakhand politics. Since active involvement of many political parties keeps the politics in the state hyped up, some of the famous political parties in Uttarakhand are:
Bharatiya Janata Party: – Since its inception the two major political parties of India Bharatiya Janata Party and Indian National Congress has been most popular political parties in Uttarakhand. BJP powers have risen at the extremes in the state of Uttarakhand. The win for BJP in Uttarakhand state elections has a revival of fortune. The party has again got full control over Hindi heartland.
Indian National Congress: – Congress in Uttarakhand has had a tough time leading elections where, Congress reduced its seats and has been in opposition now. Congress made a huge noise about GST and Demonetisation, but that noise got eventually reduced as INC failed to draw in votes in favor of them in Uttarakhand State Elections.
Samajwadi Party: – Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav was pretty confident about opening account in poll-bound Uttarakhand. The basis of assumptions was that the people of the state were disenchanted by both BJP and INC and Samajwadi Party will prove out to be the best alternative.
Bahujan Samaj Party: – Out of power for the last five years, the Mayawati-led Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) continued its dismal run in the 2017 Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly Elections. BSP became third largest National Party of India in 2009 General Elections; it won some legislative assembly seats in Uttarakhand.
Uttarakhand Kranti Dal: – The Uttarakhand Kranti Dal (UKD) is a regional political party in India, which precisely is the only regional political party in Uttarakhand in contrast to the national parties that has a huge dominance in the state alongwith National Parties. Though the party does not have any member as compared to one memberpreviously in 2012, three members in 2007 and four members in 2002 assembly elections in Uttarakhand. In a way the party has been marked as the popular political parties in Uttarakhand.
