India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the world’s largest scripture (Srimad Bhagavad-gita) at ISKCON temple in New Delhi.
On this auspicious occasion, Modi ji was greeted by ISKCON’s senior leaders such as His Holiness Gopal Krishna Goswami maharaj, Ambarish Das (Alfred Ford) and many others. Union minister Mahesh Sharma and Meenakshi Lekhi were also present with the prime minister on this occasion.
Modi unveiled world’s largest Gita and then he gave a speech glorifying the great scripture. He spoke how the Gita guided India’s freedom fighters like Gandhi ji while they fought for India’s independence.
Auditorium at ISKCON Delhi was jam packed with devotees of Lord Krishna, who had turned from all parts of the world to listen to Modi and be a part of the program.
As per ISCKON, the Gita measure 2.8 meters by 2 meters has 670 pages and weights at 800 kg. It is also the world’s largest sacred book.
“With an artistic touch of 18 exquisite paintings and an innovative elegant layout, the book has been printed in Milan, Italy, on YUPO synthetic paper so as to make it untearable and waterproof,” ISKCON said.
The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), known colloquially as the Hare Krishna movement, is a worldwide confederation of more than 400 temples and runs 100 vegetarian restaurants named Govinda’s together with a wide variety of community-serving projects.
Prime Minister glorified Gita and called it the manual for every human being. According to him, this great scripture can free a person’s life from all worries, stress, anxieties and sorrows and channelize him towards the path of salvation.
The Bhagavad-gita is universally renowned as the jewel of India’s spiritual wisdom. Spoken by Lord Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead to His intimate disciple Arjun, the Gita’s seven hundred concise verses provide a definitive guide to the science of self-realization. No other philosophical or religious work reveals, in such a lucid and profound way, the nature of consciousness, the self, the universe and the Supreme.
His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada is uniquely qualified to present this English translation and commentary on Bhagavad-gita. He is the world’s foremost Vedic scholar and teacher, and he is also the current representative of an unbroken chain of fully self-realized spiritual masters beginning with Lord Krishna Himself. Thus, unlike other editions of the Gita, this one is presented as it is–without the slightest taint of adulteration or personal motivation. This edition is certain to stimulate and enlighten with its ancient yet thoroughly timely message.
Prime Minister’s address was well-received by the audience and many attendees stood up from their seats to greet him and were eager to take selfies with him.
