Andhra Pradesh state was formed on 1st nov 1956 uniting both Andhra state and Telangana Region taking language as a base. Neelam Sanjiva Reddy who was representing Indian National Congress served as a first Chief Minister of newly formed state until 1960. The people from Indian congress party which is one of the main political parties in Andhra Pradesh were in the power until 10th January 1973. Due to Jai Andhra agitation state was under President Rule from 11th January 1973 to 10th December 1973. Later again the state was ruled by Indian National congress until 9th January 1983.
In 1983 elections the regional party named “Telugu Desam Party” came into power. It is first ever Regional party formed in the State of Andra Pradesh for the sake of providing support to the people under poverty line. Telegu Desam Party has brought the unique identity to Telugu speaking people all over the world. Telugu Desam Party for 2 terms held as a ruling party which was until 1989. Later again Indian National Congress came into power and stood up to 1994. With the election campaigns held by Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao who was famously known as NTR Telugu Desam Party came into power. In 2009 again Indian congress party became ruling Party.
Due to political parties alliance of Andhra Pradesh in the 2011 state has faced agitations like Chalo Assembly, Sakalajanula Samme and Million March regarding bifurcation of Telangana State. Kalavakuntla Chandra Shekara Rao who was leading Congress party in Andhra Pradesh was the person who revived Telangana Movement. Due to Telangana bifurcation agitations president rule has taken place from 1 mar 2014 to 8th June 2014. At last on 2nd June 2018 Telangana formed as 29th State of India consisting of 31 districts.
After bifurcation Nara Chandra Babu Naidu from Telugu Desam Party has been serving as chief minister. The newly formed Andhra pradesh has declared Amaravathi as its capital after its formation.
