Political Parties of Japan

Japan has a lot of conservatism, left wing conservatism to be exact and there is right wing conservatism party with a good number of seats, not much, but few. So averagely it’s a form of conservatism, communist (with small backing).

  • Liberal Democratic Party: – The party is usually referred to as LDP or Jiminto. This is a Conservative political party in Japan. The current President of the Party is Shinzo Abe. The ideologies followed are, Japanese Nationalism, National conservatism, Social Conservatism, Right-Wing populism, Japanese neoconservatism.
  • Japanese Communist Party: – This is one of the largest non-governing communist parties in the world. JCP is of the opinion of establishment of the society which has a base of socialism, democracy, peace and opposition to militarism. Ideologies followed by the party are, Neocommunism, Scientific socialism, Pacifism.
  • Imperial Rule Assistance Association: – It’s a Japans wartime created organization by then Prime Minister. Ideologies followed by the Party are, Ultranationalism, Japanese militarism, Showa Statism, State Shinto, Para-fasicm, National Conservatism, Japanese imperialism.                                
  • Happiness Realization Party: – This political party was founded on 23 May 2009, which was as a third option for Japanese citizens at the time of elections. Ideologies followed by the party are, Happy Science, Conservatism, Anti-communism, Corporatism, Anti-Korean sentiment, Russophobia.
  • Democratic Party: – The House of Representatives got marginalized before which the DP was termed to be the biggest opposition political party. Ideologies followed by the party are, Pacifism, Constitutionalism, Centrism, Internationalism, Social Liberalism.
  • Genzei Nippon: – This is a regional political party based in Nagoya, which has now merged at the national level with the Tomorrow Party of Japan.
  • Liberal Party: – The party has 2 out of 475 seats in the House of Representatives and 3 of 242 in House of Councillors. Ideologies followed by the party are, Social Liberalism, Localism, Environmentalism, Anti-nuclear power, Anti-TPP, Pacifism.
  • Greens Japan: – It is an established political party in Japan. Ideologies followed by the party are, Green Politics, Anti-Trans-Pacific Partnership, Anti-Nuclear Power.
  • Tomorrow Party of Japan: – This is also known as the Japan Future Party. The political party was formed on 28 November 2012 and dissolved in 2013. Ideologies followed are, Environmentalism, Anti-nuclear power, Anti TPP.
  • Dainiin Club: – The political party is in the upper house of Japan. The party was established in the House of Councillors. It’s a centrist ideology party.
  • Japan Nation Party: – A minor nationalist party which was founded in 1988, follows the ideology of Nationalism.
