Businessman and husband of Priyanka Gandhi, Robert Vadra was interrogated for several hours by the Enforcement Directorate in a case of money laundering.
Congress seems to be sinking deep into trouble as Robert Vadra was questioned by Enforcement Directorate for 9 hours in a case of money laundering.
ED probed and quizzed Robert as there are severe allegations against him that he illegally owns 9 properties in London, whose combined worth is 12 million pounds (Rs. 110 crores).
He is being interrogated in relation to his closed links with the main players in the case – controversial arms dealer Sanjay Bhandari, his nephew, and two others.
The Enforcement Directorate questioned brother-in-law of Rahul Gandhi today showing him a few emails which were exchanged between him and other key players in the case, which includes Sanjay Bhandari and his London-based relative Sumit Chadha. These email exchanges are said to have happened between June 2009 and October 2010.
Robert has denied these allegations against him of possessing illegal foreign assets in London and has termed them as a political witch hunt against him and the Gandhi family. He felt that he was being ‘hounded and harassed’ to subserve political ends of the BJP.
BJP has been blamed by its opposition parties of using government bodies like the CBI, ED and police to serve its political agenda. There have also been charges against the BJP of favoring its own officers and using senior government officials to meet out its political ambitions.
Robert will be questioned by the ED in future as well. It is likely that more senior Congressman will face allegations and charges in near future.
Son of former Finance Minister Chidambaram is also being interrogated for his alleged involvement in other scams.
Congress party has always been plagued with corruption charges. There were several corruption charges against key ministers in the cabinet of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh as well.
