Over decades celebrities have swayed the common people with their charm and hard work. It has been seen that political groups are taking the advantage of the influence of the celebrities.

Should celebrities be a part of politics? A question to ponder. Each profession is different from the other; each professional has its own set of rules and regulations. Is it fair to take the benefit of the popularity of someone to rise high in politics? However, few of the celebrities have proved their worth in being a part of the political group. Here are few celebrities in politics who has made a huge difference:-

Hema Mailini

Known as dream girl, HemaMalini has not only ruled the hearts of men in the 80’s but has also successfully established herself as a politician. From 2003 to 2009, she was nominated as the MP to the RajyaSabha by APJ Abdul Kalam. She served as the general secretary of the BharatiyaJanata Party in 2004. In 2014, she defeated JayantChaudhary of Mathura to become the MP.

Jaya Bachchan

One of the most sought after actress of the 70’s and 80’s, Jaya Bachchan stepped in the world of politics long back. She has always participated in political matter very actively. Her dedication has put all the doubts like celebrities do not attend parliament sessionsto rest. In 2004, she got elected as the Member of Parliament. She represented RajyaSabha till 2006. Currently she is serving as the MP of Samajwadi Party in the RajyaSabha.

Jaya Prada

The list of celebrity politicianscontains big names. One such name is Jaya Prada, who bid adieu to the world of politics to pursue a career as a politician. In 1994, she joined the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) to start her political career. After serving politics for a long time, she joined RashtriyaLok Dal along with Amar Singh in 2014.

Raj Babbar

A fantastic actor like Raj Babbar did not think twice before setting foot into the world of politics. He served as the Member of Parliamentbetween 1994 and 1999. During that time he was a part of the Samajwadi Party. In 2004, Raj Babbar was re-elected in the 14thLokSabha elections. Later on he joined National Congress, currently he is serving as the President of UP Congress committee.

The list of celebrities campaigning for political groupsis quite long. However, the presence of big names does not justify their presence in the political sector. The renowned celebrities serving as MP are yet to prove their worth to the common people. The power of celebrities in making political group more influential can never be ignored. It is a great thing to welcome celebrities in politicsbut they should be able to contribute towards the betterment of the nation and not just show-off their status.
